What do you know about the Easter tradition?

Updated: Mar 30

Easter is right around the corner and, like everyone else, we´re excited to eat our grandma´s delicious Hot Cross Buns and those mouth-watering chocolate treats on Sunday lunch.

However, we can´t think about Easter without egg hunts, bunnies, and painted eggs crossing our minds. But have you asked yourself where these traditions come from? When did they start?

What do you know about the Easter tradition.

Egg hunts:

Have you heard about Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer? That´s right, it´s said to be the one behind the beginning of this practice in the late 16th century. To commemorate Easter, he organized egg hunts for his congregation, where men would hide eggs and, on the other hand, women and children would look for them.

Easter Bunny:

This mythical creature that every child believes is responsible to bring the eggs during Easter, had its beginning in pre-Christian Germany. As the hare was said to be the symbol of the Pagan Goddess of Spring and Fertility, when Christianity was spreading across Europe, this tradition blended with Christian holidays. Because of this, Easter Bunny was born, and the myth of his nest of colourful eggs for children who were well-behaved on Easter Sunday began.

Painted Eggs:

The egg decoration that we all love started in Ukraine, and it was called Pykansa. Serving the purpose of blessing every part of life in Ukraine, they were considered talismans of prosperity, fertility, healing, protection, long life and bouting. In this practice, they used a batik method in which patterned areas of the eggs are covered with wax so they won´t receive the colour.

To make your Sunday lunch even 'cooler', we recommend using AirGo Smart Fan or AirLit. Also, if you want to decorate your eggs with the best lighting, you should use AirLit, which offers you 3 different light themes!
