Hay Fever… what can you do?

Updated: Feb 24

Spring has arrived, and unfortunately, Hay Fever season is on.

For those who don´t know what we´re talking about, Hay Fever is one of the most common allergies in the UK, which affects up to one in five of us! This is an allergic reaction to pollen, the fine powder emitted by plants during this season that makes you sneeze, cough, have itchy eyes, mouth and throat…

Hay Fever and steps to help you in the summer

But what you want to know is:

How can I treat it?

Sadly, as the weather starts improving, no one wants to compromise their time in the sun. But, with the amount of pollen in the air around this season, you will need some tips that can help you relieve Hay Fever’s symptoms.

1. Take a shower

Every time you return home, take a shower this will allow you to remove the pollen from your body, face and hair. Your hair, during Springtime, is one of your worse enemies, as pollen latches on it, so make sure to rinse it often.

2. Wash your clothes and dry them indoors

Never forget to change as soon as you arrive and wash your clothes right away!

Also, you should avoid drying them outside as the pollen will collect.

3. Wash your eyes and use eye drops

To cope with dried and itchy eyes, you should wash them and use eye drops regularly.

4. Wear wraparound sunglasses

While you´re outside, wear sunglasses that cover your eyes and the areas around. That would prevent the pollen from getting into your eyes!

5. Protect your nostrils

Applying a small amount of Vaseline (or some similar gel) around your nasal openings will help you trap pollen grains.

6. Vacuum and dust

To relieve your symptoms, you should vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth.

7. Choose your ingredients wisely

Studies confirm that nutrients such as quercetin, beta carotene and omega 3 are essential to soothe Hay Fever symptoms. You should eat green vegetables, berries, beans, carrots, yellow fruit and lots of oily fish!

8. Eat Spicily

Spices can be an ally in this fight. Spicy chilli peppers will make it easier to breathe, while turmeric, for example, is a natural anti-inflammatory that will help you to cope with your symptoms.

9. Drink tea and avoid alcohol

Although it´s tempting to want an alcoholic drink on a hot day, you should avoid that as it´s packed with histamine (our body chemical that is released when it´s not needed in hay fever sufferers). As an alternative, you should try some new teas such as chamomile or nettle tea that are rich in antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties.

10. Windows and doors shut

Always remember to keep everything shut, as this would prevent pollen from getting in. However, we realize how difficult this can be on a really hot day, so make sure you have a fan to keep you cool.

AirGo Smart Fan and AirLit are perfect for this! Keep your body at the right temperature with GeoSmartPro and enjoy its different speeds options!
